A Kapaau man bitten Sunday afternoon by a tiger shark off Upolu Point in North Kohala continues to recover in the hospital.

Laurie Rocha, the mother of 27-year-old Braxton Rocha, said on Facebook doctors have given her son a “good prognosis.”

According to a written Fire Department statement, six units, including two medical units and a county helicopter, responded to the 3:52 p.m. alarm.

Braxton Rocha was taken to North Hawaii Community Hospital in serious condition, where he underwent surgery for a bite wound on his left thigh just above the knee.

Rocha posted a video on Instragram showing his injury. Those who want to view the video should note it contains graphic content and should not be viewed by children or the squeamish.
